Thirty Years of Hotel Development in China

Barry Hong, CEO of August Hotels & Properties was asked by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) to write an article about the last thirty years of hotel development in China since 1978 - A Review of the Issues and Trends That Have Impacted the Hospitality market in the People’s Republic of China. Mr. Hong has extensive expertise as a Canadian developer and hotelier who first travelled to the People’s Republic of China in 1979. He then worked with Dunning & Associates and FGI Hong Kong during the mid 1980’s to the 1990’s, when he travelled extensively throughout China seeking development and investment opportunities from Shanghai to Hainan Island. With FGI, he was responsible for the development of the Westin Tai-Ping-Yang, Shanghai and the Westin Resort, Coloane Macau.

Barry Hong, CEO of August Hotels & Properties is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Zhou Li as Managing Director, China for August Hotels & Properties. Further Ms. He Hong Yu will be Vice President of Design & Planning. Both ladies have extensive experience in the Chinese hospitality and tourism industry, and have successfully operated their own company “China Wall Tourism Development” over the past few years. In addition to Zhou Li and Hong Yu, Mr. Heinz Schuhmann also joined August Hotels & Properties in the capacity of Director of Hotel Operations. A long-time hotel veteran, as general manager of several top hotels in China, Mr. Schuhmann will further compliment the professional team of August Hotels & Properties.
According to Barry Hong, CEO of August Hotels & Properties, “We are now ready to execute on various hotel projects in China that we have been prospecting over the past several months.”
